Good morning! I hope everything is going well in your neck of the woods. I am enjoying this beautiful day even though it is a lil’ nippy! Here in Georgia front porches are an extension of our homes no matter what kind of weather we’re having. My front porch is where I love to sit and drink my morning coffee and as I was sitting and pondering the other morning I decided to do something that has been on my mind for a while. I decided to join all of you bloggers! Now I’m not a professional writer or anything like that, although I do enjoy penciling down my thoughts, but wanted a place to share some of my old fashioned point of views, farmhouse style decorating ideas, old-time recipes (like grandma use to make), family memories, and country wit. We’ve always got something going on around here and thought someone besides us might enjoy finding out about it!
First, let me introduce myself. I’m Mary or Mammie according to who you’re talking to. I LOVE all things with a lil’ rust, scratches, or a time worn look. I own very little “new” furniture and if I do it’s most likely been painted or destressed to look old. I like to think that I am a collector rather than a horder…my husband and children may differ with me on that…but I do like to “Collect” things. I was told by someone recently that my house reminded them of the Cracker Barrel. I took this as a huge compliment since I LOVE the Cracker Barrel but I think my husband thought it was meant as an insult. My husband by the way is NOT a collector unless its something he is collecting (arrow heads, pottery, crocks, old cars, etc.)…know what I mean?? BUT he lets me indulge and most of the time he doesn’t interfere. We have been married 30 years and after that many years, three children, one daughter-in- law, one son-in-law, one precious granddaughter, numerous cats, cows, dogs, chickens, goats, horses, pigs, donkeys and all kinds of other “family” I don’t think either of us is up for change. We love each other and enjoy being together… so much so that we have worked in our family businesses together all of these years. All three of our children work in our family business and now our son- in-law has joined us…needless to say we are a close knit family.
As I mentioned earlier, we ALWAYS have something going on around here…Our newest project that we are fixing to start (actually we’ve already started) is to renovate an 1800’s(something) log cabin. I am gathering all the information and pictures that I can and will begin posting soon! I plan on posting every few days or weeks (teeheehee) according to how the progress goes. We moved the cabin to our property from the original home place because the farm got sold and a young couple built a new house there. My only daughter got married in November (this story and pictures will be in a later post) and now she wants to renovate it. Hallelujah!! She and her husband plan on moving into it as soon as renovations are done and I couldn’t be happier. It sits in the pines between me and my dad’s house, within spitting distance, and it looks perfect there!!
If you have any ideas and tips on how to renovate/remodel an old log cabin please share them with us!! We are always looking for fresh ideas and old time photos to give us inspiration!
Thank you for joining my post today…I look forwarding to sharing my country life with you! Ya’ll come back you hear!!
Mary or as Natalie calls me MAMMIE
PS The picture above is one I took the other morning while sitting on my front porch….can you believe my geranium is blooming in February?? And my foxtail fern has not been nipped by the frost??? Oh the joys of Southern living!!
